Brands are searching for the right way to leverage virtual reality
Virtual reality is generating a big buzz in a number of industries. From real estate showing a house’s potential to becoming immersed in the world of a video game, just about everyone is trying to capitalize on this new-ish technology in different ways. While they might not have the perfect application, lots of companies are giving it a shot.
According to Strategy Analytics, 11 million people in the U.S. now own their own VR headset. As more and more consumers are purchasing these devices, brands are trying to understand why. They want to use this data to construct a more significant connection between themselves and the consumers by better integrating themselves into the experience. So what does this mean for advertisers?
Well, no one’s exactly sure yet. This new channel will be tricky because brands know consumers don’t want another ad interrupting their activity. So moving forward advertisers will need to treat this like threading string through a needle – it will take patience to develop it exactly right.
